Rutland Cranes was appointed to deliver a full contract lift for a glazing contractor at the Travelodge Hotel in Crystal Palace, assisting with the installation of glass panels for a newly constructed entrance lobby. The project required working within tight public spaces and across multiple crane setup zones — including land belonging to a neighbouring car dealership.

The Challenge

The site posed several operational constraints:

  • Multiple crane positioning zones across restricted access areas
  • Crane setup on paved surfaces in active car park
  • Public interface requiring safe segregation and controlled access
  • Close coordination required between client, principal contractor, and third-party landowner

Our Solution

Following a detailed site survey and stakeholder meeting, we agreed a clear scope of responsibilities and access protocol for each party. Rutland Cranes was responsible for the supply, operation, and management of lifting operations, as well as implementing physical public segregation measures.

We selected the Maeda MC-285 spider crane for its compact footprint and low ground pressure, ideal for working on sensitive paved surfaces with minimal disruption. Paired with the WPG MRT4 vacuum lifter, our team was able to safely install 250kg glass panels with full control and precision.

The Outcome

  • Glass installation completed on time and without incident
  • No impact to surrounding business operations
  • Public kept safe and separated from the work zone at all times
  • Strong coordination between all stakeholders ensured smooth delivery
